The Los Angeles Fires of 1962

Thinkopolis (video time 26:42)

The fire in Los Angeles is not the first. There was a major fire in 1961 known as the Bel-Air Fire. Driven by Santa Ana winds, it destroyed 484 homes, damaged many others, and burned about 16,090 acres. Movie stars, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Burt Lancaster, and more, lost their homes. William Conrad narrates.
