The Swingle Singers

Thinkopolis (video time 5:02)

Rare film of the Swingle Singers, a world-renowned vocal ensemble famous for their unique a cappella arrangements of classical, jazz, and pop music. Founded in 1962 by American jazz musician Ward Swingle in Paris, the original group gained fame for their inventive scat-style renditions of J. S. Bach’s compositions. Their debut album, Jazz Sébastien Bach (1963), won a Grammy Award and set the standard for vocal virtuosity. Here, in 1969, they perform the Sinfonia from Bach’s Partita No. 2.
